What image size works for uploads, email and websites?
The right file size depends on the destination. An application portal with a hard limit requires a different compromise from a product image or a photo sent by email.
Compress an image to a target size100KB and 200KB
Small targets are useful for profile images, forms or portals with strict limits. Detailed photographs may need smaller pixel dimensions or visible quality reduction to reach them.
500KB and 1MB
These sizes are often practical starting points for screen use, presentations and individual email images. The provider’s total limit and number of files still matter.
Pixel dimensions and file size differ
Width and height describe the pixel count. KB and MB describe storage. A large-dimension image can still be lightweight when its format and visual content compress efficiently.
JPG, PNG or WebP
JPG is often appropriate for photographs. PNG preserves transparency and suits some graphics but can be larger. WebP frequently combines good visual quality with lower file size.
